Concrete Cashmere was part of the Miniso Canada expansion into British Columbia, designing multiple of its stores within the Metro Vancouver area.

Miniso is a Chinese low-cost retailer and variety store chain that specializes in household and consumer goods including cosmetics, stationery, toys, and kitchenware. It opened its first franchised stores in Vancouver in 2017.

Using specifications provided by Miniso’s consultants, Concrete Cashmere worked with Miniso franchisees and its head office to ensure that the construction of the multiple stores across the Lower Mainland are in adherence to their brand’s requirements including incorporating fixtures from Asia to be used in the retail stores. 

Concrete Cashmere was able to meet Miniso’s requirements and was able to be part of its store openings in Metrotown, Richmond Centre and Lansdown area, Granville Street, North Vancouver, Coquitlam, New Westminster, West 4th, Surrey Guildford, Abbotsford, and SFU. Each location was approximately 2,000 to 4,000 sq. ft. in size and were allocated three to five weeks in the construction timeline.

F Bad Hair owner has been an established hairstylist in Vancouver and was excited to open her first salon location.  With the new space, Concrete Cashmere was required to upgrade the existing diminishing wall for the landlord to include permits. The team also ensured that the salon is fire-rated and is up to code.

The project entailed the design and build-out of our client’s hair salon.  The theme was a minimalistic design with an industrial, monochromatic scheme that included exposed ceilings, concrete floors, and metal finishes.

As a design feature, Concrete Cashmere constructed a platform to tie in the plumbing into the hair washing station.   Met with obstacles, the design and construction team was able to provide services that were true to the client’s vision.

RainCity Dance Studio is a Dance Academy offering classes in Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary, Tap, and Hip Hop and specializing in the Royal Academy of Dance exams.

The Concrete Cashmere team took on this exciting, major change-of-use project in 2017. The previous unit had three existing uses. The team was tasked with transforming the space into a functional dance studio for children and adults.

We completed a combined development & building permit application for this interior major change of use, as this unit had THREE existing uses: as a Healthcare Office (Group D), Retail Store (Group E), and General Office (Group D).  Space was successfully changed to suit a new dance studio for children and adults (Group A2), in an existing commercial Heritage A building.

Full coordination with the City Square Mall base building was required as the unit was located within the mall along with street access. Our in-house Architect, Danny Wong, was involved in approving the drawings for the building permit application.

The team provided the design for two large dance studios, 1 smaller flex dance room, 1 office, two change-rooms, 2 accessible washrooms, as well as a small mop sink area for cleaning purposes.

The dance floor studios required special flooring that allowed flexibility for dancing. This caused the corridor flooring to be at a lower level. Instead of raising the entire floor, not within the studios, we created a double-sided ramp in the corridor to allow a smooth transition between the studios and corridor space.
